Guide to the North Ridge Scenic Byway (Lorain County, Ohio)

The North Ridge Scenic Byway follows a historic route, west of the Cleveland, Ohio urban area, through the rural landscape of Avon and Sheffield. The roadway follows one of the more significant topographic features of the region, an ancient beach ridge. Ohio Route 254 is the roadway through the Byway corridor. Once known as North Ridge Road along its entire length in Lorain County, the segment east of the Black River is now named Detroit Road.

Bicentennial History of Sheffield, Ohio 1815-2015

Three Sheffields—Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Village, and Sheffield Township— celebrated the bicentennial of their founding. 200 years is far too short a span of time if one is to fully understand the fascinating history of these communities. The geological and ecological events that formed the terrain upon which the early settlers built their homesteads are critical factors in this history.
